Hitting Bumps? Diagnosing Common Suspension Problems

March 25, 2024

Has driving your car started to feel more like riding a bucking bronco lately? If you’re getting tossed around in your car over minor bumps, your suspension likely needs work. In this article, we’d like to teach you a thing or two about diagnosing common suspension problems so you can get back to smooth driving.

Suspension | TRC Automotive

Here are a few common red flags that indicate suspension issues:

  • Your Car Pulls to One Side While Driving. If your vehicle is veering to the left or right even when your steering wheel is straight, it could indicate worn-out suspension components like ball joints, control arm bushings, or tie rods. Unevenly worn shocks & struts can also cause the car to pull, since they significantly influence your vehicle’s alignment.
  • One Corner of Your Car is Sitting Too Low. Your suspension system helps support your car’s weight, so damage like a blown shock or weak spring can cause sagging on one side of your vehicle. Sometimes, it can be so obvious that you notice your car’s slant even from afar.
  • Oily Shock Absorbers. Don’t ignore oily residue around the shocks or struts, as this likely indicates broken seals leaking fluid. Leaky oil dampers mean your suspension can’t properly absorb bumps and dips.
  • Diving, Rolling, or Squatting. Excessive nose-diving when braking, body rolling around corners, or rear sagging when accelerating are all clues that your shocks & struts can no longer handle the vehicle’s motions properly.

If you’re unsure whether your car’s suspension needs repairing, our expert mechanics at TRC Automotive Repair can help. Give us a call today to schedule a vehicle inspection.

Windshield wipers are typically made of a rubber blade attached to a metal or plastic arm. The rubber is designed to be replaced, as they can wear out or become cracked due to exposure to the sun and weather elements. In this blog we will briefly discuss about making your windshield wipers last.
